The Pharmacy Technician diploma program at PITC Institute is designed to focus on the subject areas required to prepare students to be successful Pharmacy Technicians. The program concentrates on providing students with knowledge, skills and techniques to prepare and dispense medications in community, institutional and other pharmacy settings. The duties of our graduates include collecting, evaluating, processing patient information to provide direct care, understand the basics of human anatomy and physiology perform pharmaceutical dosages and calculations.  Other duties will include measuring and compounding drugs using sterile and non-sterile pharmacy techniques, interpreting prescriptions and medication orders, packaging, labeling medication, first hand knowledge of most highly prescribed medications and maintaining the patient profile.  Graduates will be certified CPR certified upon successful completion of that exam.  We will offer the tools to achieve the pharmacy technician competencies defined by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, American Pharmacists Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. At the end of this program, the students will be well-trained and skilled professionals, capable of obtaining a pharmacy technician entry level position in hospitals, retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical industry and insurance companies.  Upon graduation students can obtain positions as a pharmacy technician, dispensary technician, and order entry technician.

At the successful completion of the Medical Assistant program, students will be able to:

 

o Demonstrate effective communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills as a pharmacy technician professional.

 

o Comprehend, define, and appropriately use medical and pharmacy terminology.

 

o Understand the study of Anatomy and Physiology and how it applies to disorders in the human body.

 

o Accurately use metric, household, apothecary and avoirdupois systems for inputting prescription/medication order information.

 

o Explain storage requirements for medications and devices.

 

o Explain the importance of labeling medication accurately.

 

o Utilize the skills learned in the laboratory to perform technically precise intravenous medications, compounding, and aiding the pharmacist in filling, labeling and logging prescriptions.

 

o Performing functions as a pharmacy technician such as: ordering, stocking and inventory of drugs
